Reunion??
Saturday, January 28th, 2006Well yea, as you all know, Chinese New Year is like… tmrw. so in basically almost every chinese family, there will be a reunion of some sort. the reunion dinner for my family (my dads side), happened to be at my hse. well, actually it just ended 15 mins ago. Gawdd … almost everything went wrong.
You see, my mom ordered this nasi briyani or something like that… and it came with the meat in the rice. when my relatives started eating it, they realised that it was beef. and well, judging from their reaction, they dont eat beef! *crap!*.. so yup, we had to slowly remove the meat from the rice and urgghhh… find something else to cook. luckily mom prepared a side dish of chicken. the rice also was kinda spicy, and my granny supposedly cant eat spicy food (i swear to god, we had NO IDEA!). so in the end, she ended up making this large bowl of MAGGI MEE!! gosh… tempers started arrising as my mom and her mother in law (aka my granny) got talking. i dont get it, why does the wife always have problems with the mother in law.. seriously! it even happens in the movies. totally zonkers!
Well, things settled down after awhile, ppl got over the whole "i-think-i-ate-beef-in-the-rice" incident and we all got round to lite chitter chatter over wine and desert. the UNATTENDED baby, who belongs to my singaporean uncle (he has 5 kids!! in singapore!! whoahhh.. ) started crying… crying, and crying, and crying! gosh.. that little kid had peed all over the carpet! G-R-O-S-S!! hahaa… yeah. so we had to do a whole lot of cleaning. in the process, dad ‘managed’ to break a wine glass (way to go dad!), my other cousin had a nose bleed, and somehow all the other little kids were totally lost in their own world watching Harry Potter on tv.. man, kids can get so sucked into movies these days!
Anyway, things turned out O.K in the end.. everyones gone back now. the hse is so so quiet! and i’m totally exhausted from all the layan-ing i had to do. (prepare drinks, pour drinks, serve food, pack extra food for them to ‘tapau’ home, wipe the tables, wash the plates….. etc!) tmrw we’ll be going back to Muar. Mom’s side of the family… i soo cant wait to see my cousins! ching, shea ling and all… yay! and mahjong and cho tai ti!! wooohooo!
i dont really know anyone from my dads side. i’m just terrible at remembering ppl. like the other time, my dads cousin had this big dinner, and there was this really really hot guy there. he looked eurasian… phheeweet! turned out to be my cousin whom i’ve never met before! *damn*.. hahah… anyway, yeah. cant wait for tmrw… at least there’ll be some familiar faces around. before i forget, Happy Chinese New Year to ya’ all out there! Have fun collecting ang pows! :)
